The three stages of Law Enforcement in Texas (State, Local, and Essay
The three stages of Law Enforcement in Texas (State, Local, and Federal) - Essay Example The Constitution allows that the state can come up with any laws they wish, provided they do not violate the constitution. Federal organization normally works within the jurisdiction, which is within the limits of a given country. Federal law enforcement agency may not enforce the law within the smaller jurisdiction, such as a state, as well as, a country, though they can help other organizations by giving out information to them. As a common rule, federal law enforcement organization have the mandate to act when federal laws are not adhered, the federal asset is involved, or when the federal law gives federal agents own mandate to act in a specific legal area or field. At the same time, it is possible for federal organization to enforce state or local laws. They, therefore, exercise their mandate everywhere in the United States when need arises. The responsibilities of federal agency differ from one country to another. These tasks include the response to policing of airports, fraud against the country, the protection of designated national infrastructure, immigration as well as border control regarding individuals and assets, the investigation of currency counterfeiting, national security and guarding the countryââ¬â¢s head of state, as well as, other significant dignitaries.... They do not implement their jurisdiction at divisional level. However, they can exercise this when exceptional arrangements between federal and divisional governing bodies are organized. An example of such a federal organization is the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Another body is the Federal Protective Service (FPS), which is one of the organizations found in the U.S. Division of Homeland Security. The Division is responsible for law enforcement and the security of about 9,000 federal owned buildings, courthouses and assets. The FPS is deployed for national security events on terrorist attacks, as well as, natural disaster management in the U.S. The U.S. has a well-organized system of law enforcement, and it is reflected in its federal organizations. Federal agencies normally enforce laws that lie within their jurisdictions and areas of duty; therefore, they have limited police tasks. This means certain federal agencies deal with crimes, no matter the place they have occurr ed. For instance, the FBI that has its own primary investigative functions deal with kidnapping cases in the U.S. The agency is the largest of all federal law enforcement organizations (Carter 116). The agency has divided its investigation into several programs, which include domestic and international terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, public corruption, civil right, cyber, organized crime drugs, white-collar crime, applicant matters and violent crimes. A good number of FBI findings are carried out in collaboration with several other law enforcement agencies. The FBI has always believed that working with other agencies is the main tool for effective law enforcement. They usually cooperate and work

Biology - Essay Example The other is the ââ¬Å"good cholesterolâ⬠which is contained within the high-density lipoprotein and is considered to have beneficial actions on the human beings. Cholesterol can have good effects on the human body and it is because of this that the researchers have termed it as being beneficial under some set conditions. What this means is that cholesterol has got a physiological role in the human body and thus anything in excess is pathogenic and could lead to the harmful effects that come part and parcel with cholesterol. As per the good aspects, we find out that the metabolism of cholesterol is regulated and controlled by enzymes that are different in nature and shape as well as the receptors present within the human body. Cholesterol makes for an effective transferring process of the proteins which are present within the liver, small intestine, peripheral cells and plasma. Cholesterol helps in digestion of dietary fats as well as the production of many different hormones. There is evidence that with the increase of high-density lipoprotein within the human body, longevity could be expected, which surely is a positive sign related with ch olesterol. Cholesterol always helps in building the cell walls and is thus a good agent within the human body from this perspective. For cholesterol to always remain as a beneficial entity there is a dire need to have its intake in a very conservative fashion so that the related excess does not create coronary heart disease and other risks which are closely associated. Cholesterol is an equally good building block as far as Vitamin D is concerned. It helps the sex hormones and different important chemicals are made up due to the presence of cholesterol. Also cholesterol helps at building the structure as well as the function of the invaginated caveole and the clathrin-coated pits. There is a serious role of cholesterol within the synthesis and intake regimes of a human diet and is synthesized

Settling the Northern Colonies Essay The Protestant Reformation Produces Puritanism Martin Luther . He declared that the Bible alone was the source of Gods words. He started the Protestant Reformation. John Calvin He spelled out his doctrine in 1536 called Institutes of the Christian Religion. He formed Calvinism. King Henry VIII formed the Protestant Church. There were a few people who wanted to see the process of taking Catholicism out of England occur more quickly. These people were called Puritans. A tiny group of Puritans, called Separatists, broke away from the Church of England. King James I had them exiled from England. The Pilgrims End Their Pilgrimage at Plymouth Separatists in Holland settled in Plymouth Bay in 1620. Pilgrim leaders drew up and signed the Mayflower Compact. This was a simple agreement to form a crude government and to agree to the majority under the regulations agreed upon. It was signed by 41 males. It was the first attempt at a government in America. In the Pilgrims first winter of 1620-1621, only 44 of the 102 survived. In 1621, there was the first Thanksgiving Day in New England. William Bradford- elected 30 times as governor of the Pilgrims. The Bay Colony Bible Commonwealth Charles I dismissed Parliament in 1629 and sanctioned the anti-Puritan persecutions of the Archbishop William Laud. In 1629, a group of non-Separatist Puritans secured a royal charter to form the Massachusetts Bay Company During the Great Migration of the 1630s, about 70,000 refugees left England for America. Most of them were attracted to the warm and fertile West Indies. John Winthrop- the Bay Colonys first governor. Building the Bay Colony Governor Winthrop of the Bay Colony did not like Democracy. In the 17th Century, the Dutch (the Netherlands) became a power. Golden Age. It fought 3 great Anglo-Dutch naval battles. The Dutch Republic became a leading colonial power, with by far its greatest activity in the East Indies. The Dutch East India Company was nearly a state within a state and at one time supported an army of 10,000 men and a fleet of 190 ships, 40 of them men-of-war. This company hired an English explorer, Henry Hudson, to seek great riches. He sailed into the Delaware Bay and New York Bay in 1609 and then ascended the Hudson River. He filed a Dutch claim to a wooded and watered area. The Dutch West India Company was less powerful than the Dutch East India Company, and was based in the Caribbean. The king called the area Pennsylvania. These colonies were more ethnically mixed than any of the other colonies. The people were given more religious tolerance than in any other colonies. Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1706. He moved to Philadelphia at the age of 17.
Price And Non Price Competition In Shampoo Industry Economics Essay
Price And Non Price Competition In Shampoo Industry Economics Essay Price competition is nothing but competing on the basis of price which may involve price cutting. This may not involve in maximization of profits because price cut by one firm will force others to do the same, in a way every player is more or less having the same market share and no profits or less profits. A monopolistic market is very competitive and a price competition will exist or can sustain only in the short run like the monopolist, the monopolistically firm maximizes short run profit by following the MC=MR rule. As under the monopoly, if the price equals the ATC curve, the firm earns a short run normal profit. If the price is below the ATC curve, the firm suffers a short run loss, and if the price is below the average variable cost curve curve, the firm shuts down. In the words of Nicolson Non price competition is the competition by sellers for sales by means of other than price cutting. In the long run the monopolistically competitive firm, unlike a monopolist, will not earn an economic profit in the long rum. Rather , like a perfect competitor, the monopolistically competitive firm earns only a normal profit in the long run. The reason is that the short run profits and easy entry attract new firms into the industry. So in the long run competition is more likely using the non price factors. This refers to the attempt to attract the customers through changing the quality of the product, changing the market place, intense publicity service etc. Non price competition is the competition through product differ. Coming to the oligopoly market, because each oligopolist is a major factor in the market, oligopolists pricing decisions are mutually interdependent. The price one producer asks significantly affects the others sales. Hence when one oligopolistic firm lowers it price, all the others can be expected to lower theirs, to prevent erosion of their market shares. The oligopolist may have to second-guess other producers pricing policies-how they will react to a change in price, and what that might mean for its own policy. In fact, oligopolistic pricing decisions resemble moves in a chess game. The thinking may be so complicated that no one can predict what will happen. Thus, theories of oligopolistic price determination tend to be confined almost exclusively to the short run. Another line of thought arising from the kinked demand curve model is that, if firms are inhibited from changing their price competitive in some way because of their conjectures about rivals reaction, they will turn instead to non price forms of competition, such as advertizing and product variation, either separately or in combination. However, if a firm A increases its advertising expenditure, and that expenditure is successful in attracting more buyers, there may be some increase in the total market for the product but the main gains will be at the expense of rivals products. Competing firms can, therefore be expected to match any increase in advertising expenditure in an attempt to retain their market any increase in advertising expenditure in an attempt to retain their market share for exactly the same reason that they would match any price reductions. In the end, all firms would be faced with higher advertising costs, but not much to show for it in term of extra sales or profit s. Conversely, if A reduced its advertising expenditure, it would lose sales to its competitors who, having benefited from the situation, would appear to have little incentive to match As reduced level of expenditure. So again, it can be argued that changes in either direction from the status quo are likely to be unprofitable. However, it can also be argued that firms are likely to be more willing to risk an increase in advertising expenditure than a price reduction. A price reduction is, in a sense, a crude weapon that can be easily matched by rivals, whilst advertising has a more qualitative dimension that can less easily be countered. If a firm, therefore, has a good advertising idea or new improved product to market, it might be willing to embark on an advertising campaign to exploit the situation even in the almost certain knowledge that its action would provoke retaliation from competitors, whilst remaining reluctant to engage in a price war. The qualitative dimension to advertising may also lead firm to be less willing to be to act collusively, either formally or informally to reduced advertising expenditures than to rise price. Hence the issues raised in receving two sections are likely to be less constraining influence on advertising and product behavior than on price change. ELASTICITY: The change in demand or supply curve relative to the change in price is called as curves elasticity. Different products have different elasticies depending on the essentiality the elasticity differs from product to product. The products that have the functionality of meeting the necessities are not so venerable to price, because people any way would buy those products. A good is said to be highly elastic if an iota change in price leads to great change in demand or supply. In the same way an inelastic good is something where any change in price would not effect the demand. The equation for elasticity is:à Elasticity = percentage change in quantity / percentage change in price If elasticity (e) >= 1, then the curve is said to be elastic. If e Basically the demand curve is a negative slope, and if there is a large decrease in the quantity demanded with a small increase in price, the demand curve looks flatter, or more horizontal. This flatter curve means that the good or service in question is elastic.à C:UsersSrujanaDesktopuntitled folder 2economics12.gif The inelastic demand small change in quantity due to large change in price.à D:untitled folder 2economics13.gif Elasticity for supply : change in price results in a huge change in the amount supplied. Elasticity in this case would be greater than or equal to one.à D:untitled folder 2economics14.gif big change in price only results in a minor change in the quantity supplied. C:UsersSrujanaDesktopuntitled folder 2economics15.gif Determinants of Elasticity: Many factors influence elasticity, some of which are: Necessities versus Luxuriesà To find a substitute is extremely difficult so demand will change very less. Availability of Close Substitutes. Definition of the Marketà bigger the market more is the chance of finding the substitutes Time Horizon. Relative Size of Purchase. SHAMPOO INDUSTRY: Hair care products consist of hair oil, shampoos, conditioners and hair color. The size of the shampoo market reached Rs 850 crore and 30,000 tonnes in volume terms. The shampoo Market is the fastest growing item with in personal product category and it has expanded by nearly two and a half times in last few years, though the market is confined mainly to the urban locations in India. Shampoo usage in India: shampoos remain in low penetration category when compared with soaps and detergents whose penetration level is more than 90 percent. As per industry estimates, the urban Markey penetration of shampoo was about 36 per cent whereas in the rural market, usage was of the order of 12 per cent of the total population. Thus, there is a considerable scope for expansion by converting non-users. In respect to function, shampoo are of the following types: a) All purpose shampoos b) Special shampoos for dry, normal, oi!y, tinted, and bleached hair formulated on the principle that these hair conditions require special products c) Baby shampoos formulated to be nonsmarting to the eyes d) Medicated dandruff shampoos e) Color shampoos Factors for selecting a shampoo(Consumer point of view): Ease of application Lather Manageability Fragrance Luster Low level of irritation. Good stability. Economical. Look and feel of shampoo. Benefits offered by shampoo. Major barriers shampoo use in India are: common beliefs that shampoos contain chemicals and so it could damage hair; shampoo is viewed more as a glamour value and lack of conviction about the functional usefulness of shampoo. Until pouch packet was introduced, a large section of the market found even the price quite high and not affordable. Over the last decade or so, marketers have tried different possible experiments to expand there market penetration. Initially major players have tried to create awareness and dispel some of the myths by heavy advertizing. Among many innovative strategies like offering of shampoo for particular major of hair or special formulations, small size packs, especially introduction of sachets etc., shift from the glass bottles to plastic bottle pouch pack lowering of unit price seams to have been most effective. For instance, CavinKare introduced a 50 paise sachet of Chik shampoo, when most other shachets were sold at Rs 2. Such a lower price strategy was an instant success. HUL has also offered its 50 paise pack for Lux shampoo. The claims the 30 ml bubble pack for Clinic Plus, is a cost effective alternative for sachet users. Innovation in features: The creation of an anti dandruff shampoos was the first step. Clinic plus, a word known to every one has bought the first anti dandruff shampoo in to the market. HUL experimented with Sunsilk to make different products for normal, dry, and oily hair. PG s Head Shoulders, Menthol and Pantene Lively Clean offer distinct function benefits to the target users. This strategy enable those brands to gain volume as well as earn better margin. The company that I selected is PG (Proctor Gamble) which has the second largest market share in India. When I visited the departmental store I came across a whole rack of PG products and when I keenly observed the shampoos section there were three different brands. The first one was Head Shoulders which basically aims at solving dandruff problems, when spoken with people I came to know that most of them are suffering from dandruff problems and their choice of selecting this particular shampoo was mainly because of the availability and the trust they have in the company no wonder the company enjoys such a huge market share. This particular brand also has a pinch of conditioner features which is also a valid reason why people select this. The second brand I came across was PGs Pantene which mostly targeted at a niche market however I can confidently say that peoples choice of any shampoo is not on price, this is very dangerous to conclude but this was too evident in my study. The other observation that I made was many were hating Pantene because of the more usage of chemicals which are harmful to hair this can be profited by PG by reducing the amount of chemicals used. The demand curve of Pantene is falling in the recent years and the only reason that I found was the usage of chemicals that in turn lead to hair loss. The third brand that was a bit difficult to find was PGs brand Rejoice my study shows that not many people were opting for rejoice, in an other study Rejoice was ranked as number 1 in Asian market. The typical characteristics, which were evident, are like low price and attractive cover image. Key Strategies Absorbed: As we now that PG is late entrant into the shampoo segment so its main target was to increase its market share. During its time of entry HUL was a huge company and had maximum market share in shampoo segment, so to compete with HULs product PG released a low price shampoo product. We can see that a Price competition took place. As time went on PG increased its products category to compete heavily with HUL and this competition can be called as Non-Price competition. PG have shampoo products catering to all kinds of segments. When I visited the departmental store the products that were targeted for the niche market occupied a considerable amount of space relative to the products that cater the needs of mass market. Pantene and Head Shoulders are the products specially for the niche market and Rejoice was for the mass market. Head and Shoulder priced at Rs.62 for 100ml and for 200ml Rs.120 and Rs. 3 for single sachet which contains around 6ml. Pantene shampoo sachet price is of about Rs. 3, for 100ml pack the price is Rs. 89, for 200ml pack the price is Rs.169,for 400ml pack the price is Rs. 325. Rejoice shampoo sachet price is of about Rs. 2 and for 100ml pack the price is Rs. 33. Space allocated: Two major principles in the success of retail market are sales and profits. The sales volume and the profitability can be measured in the amount of space consumed for the particular product. Depending upon the product category the products are allocated. The amount of space is allocated based on the previous performance of the particular product. If the demand for a particular product is growing then more space is allocated product or else the space allocated is decreased. Allocating the space according to the number of sales done. Allocation of the space for the particular product differs from store to store. The characteristics of the product determine the space allocation in both quality and quantity of space. CONCULSION: My keen observations made me to comment that Pantene has high price and low demand, Head Shoulders enjoys an equilibrium price and Rejoice has a very less demand when compared to other PG products which shows that supply is also on the lower side and hence less availability of Rejoice shampoo. Being it a Oligopolistic market PG spends a lot of amount on Non Price factors to have a Non-Price competition with its main rival HUL.

The Dance Revolution of the 1970ââ¬â¢s Essay -- Sociology Culture Essays
The Dance Revolution of the 1970ââ¬â¢s Contact improvisation is a modern dance form where two people move while maintaining a connection. It originated from portions of Steve Paxtonââ¬â¢s movement studies, which he began in 1972 at Oberlin College. As with every major event that happens in the world, the introduction and investigation of contact improvisation affected everyone in society one way or another. Many people associate the 1970ââ¬â¢s as the ââ¬Å"hippie eraâ⬠in American history. Due to this, the majority of society was open to new ideas. It was the beginning of the sexual revolution and the womenââ¬â¢s revolution was just getting underway. Younger members of society were participating in at least one of the numerous Vietnam War Protests, which they organized. They were into ââ¬Å"free loveâ⬠; they wanted to do away with racism and allow everyone to be treated the same and on the same level. As a result of the vast majority of society and open mindness, Paxtonââ¬â¢s ideas in the new movement were accepted. Those who attended performances, also referre...
Smithââ¬â¢s Division of Labour Essay -- Essays Papers
Smithââ¬â¢s Division of Labour According to Smith, there are three reasons why the division of labour increases productivity. First, Smith attests that the division of labour increases dexterity within the workplace. By dexterity, Smith means that an individual performing one task repetitively can accomplish that task faster than an individual who attempts to accomplish all tasks by himself. Carpentry is a prime example of Smithââ¬â¢s division of labour. It may take an individual an entire day to complete one chairâ⬠¦ to cut, route, and sand the boards. Then to glue, screw, and finish the chair. If the job of making the chair was divided up between different individuals each performing one task, then the number of chairs completed in a single day would increase dramatically. Second, Smith believed that the division of labour saves time. When one man must perform every task, it takes time to move between the different stations necessary to complete the task. Furthermore, changing jobs or tasks within the workplace causes psychological problems. It takes time for someone to adjust to a different task, whereas an individual who only performs one task never has the need to readjust. Take the carpenter for example; after cutting the boards to shape he must then move to route and sand the boards. The adjustment from cutting the boards to sanding the boards is a complete mental transition. Different tools, motions, and locations are necessary in order to sand the boards as opposed to cut the boards. The transition between tasks wastes valuable time and money. Another time-wasting element of the workplace without a division of labour is manââ¬â¢s intrinsic tendency to take breaks between jobs or tasks. The transition between diff... ... process is to make a woolen coat which keeps a day labourer warm so that he, again, can start the chain of economic processes. Within each step of the woolen coat or chair construction, there exists a separate division of labor as well. In order to gather the lumber, there are dozens of separate steps necessary. Someone must cut down the tree, and then one must stack the tree into a truck. After which, one must drive the truck to the lumber yard. Then the trees must be cut into boards. Then the boards must be stacked and wateredâ⬠¦ it is an endless chain of responsibilities. Again, according the Smith, the most beneficial manner in which to accomplish these steps is to have one individual occupy each step. Therefore, it becomes apparent that there are thousands of individuals whose work goes into making something as simple as a woolen coat or a chair.

Automobile and Product Essay
1a. The company this case is about is a company named DoorGuard. DoorGuard is a company that is trying to create a new market that protects cars from getting dinged or dented. 1b. Strengths: DoorGuard strengths are that there is currently no one else who has a product that does the same thing, along with a big target market. 1c. Weaknesses: Doorguardââ¬â¢s weaknesses are that he couldnââ¬â¢t find a concrete way to distribute and promote their product. Another weakness is that DoorGuard is a pioneer product it could boom or bust, with a pioneer product you cannot predict as well how successful your product will be. 1d. Opportunity-There is a big opportunity for this product to take off if he sold to only 5% of his target market he would be making $6,100,000. 1e. Threat- DoorGuardââ¬â¢s threat is they are a product pioneer. This will be a high risk, high reward company. It could skyrocket or else it will fall right on its face. It could be ahead of its time or the economic times could take a large portion of his target market and sway them in a different direction. 2. The market described in this article is anyone who has a car that costs $15,000 or more. These people are normally people who have are from their mid-late 20ââ¬â¢s to 60ââ¬â¢s that have a well paying job. They market also teenage kids who come from a wealthy family. 3. There are no direct competitors in this case. There is some indirect competition though with AutoShades. This is a company that prevents the sun from coming into the car. Their strengths are that they are cheap, sometimes come with the car when bought new, and also have different designs. The companies weakness compared to DoorGuard is that it does not protect the car at all. 4. The people possibly consuming or buying this product ages range from the mid 20ââ¬â¢s ââ¬â60ââ¬â¢s. Most of these people are middle-upper middle class. The majority of these people have kids. These people drive to places where this is tight parking (grocery shopping, schools (elementary, middle and high), malls). For these people this product could be valuable in the long run itââ¬â¢d cost less off AutoGuard doors compared to removing dings and dents. 5. The technological market is important to recognize because DoorGuardââ¬â¢s anti-theft mechanism still destroys the product the consumer bought. This could be a problem that an adaption to the anti-theft mechanism could prevent. Economic market should also be acknowledged because with bad economic times most of DoorGuardââ¬â¢s target market people who are in their mid-late 20ââ¬â¢s-60ââ¬â¢s who not extremely wealthy people are but ordinary everyday people will be less likely to buy a good that they want and donââ¬â¢t necessarily need. If the car door gets dinged or dented the car will still run itââ¬â¢s not a necessity. Problem Statement: Should Steve Harris take the next step with his product and look to distribute it? Steve Harris focuses on distributing to the top five automobile manufactures (Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota, and Honda). With Harris looking to distribute to the top five automobile companies in their retail stores. They would be stored on a car as the customer walk into the store or stored between the main entrance and the secretaryââ¬â¢s desk. There is a By targeting these big 5 automobile companies Harris will maximize his productivity by reaching almost all of his target market, while also having time to work on other aspects of his company. Distribute to every automobile retailer out their. With Harris selling his product in every automobile retailer it will guarantee that he is able to access his entire target market. By targeting every automobile retailers it takes away a more of a majority of their time and money compared to targeting only the top 5 retailers or not selling to any automobile retailers. Advertise and open your business and sell as a wholesaler to the customer. The advantage of not looking to distributing to any retailers is that you save on shipping cost to retailers. Harris will also have a lot more time to figuring out how to advertise and promote his product. The weakness is that it will be very hard to advertise and promote his product without an automobile company supporting his idea. Have Harris distribute DoorGuard to two or three car companies. The strengths with this strategy is heââ¬â¢ll be able to target a decent amount of the market. The amount he targets varies depending on which companies he picks. Harris will be able not worry about distribution as much as if he was distributing to the top 5 automobiles companies or every automobile company. This will allow Harris to focus more of his time towards his product, and promotion of the product. By have only a few car companies distributing his product there is a great chance that these companies will remain loyal to you in years to come. There are some negative effects though to this distribution process. With so few of distributors your fate is in their hands. For example say you decided to distribute to GM and Ford. For some reason Ford goes bankrupt and out of business. Thatââ¬â¢s roughly half of your target market that disappears. If one of the companies Harris distributes to goes down, AutoGuard as well will be in serious trouble financially. Your target market will be so small that it will be hard to hit 5% of all people buying an automobile. You need a plan B (alternative option) incase you one of the few automobile companies drastically falter. Recommendation Mr. Harris should focus on only distributing to the top five automobile companies. This will allow him to target the majority of the market while still being able to spend a lot of his time worrying about all the other aspects of his company (promotion/ advertising, and improving the product). With targeting this large section of the market for such a small cost it will allow him to adapt other aspects of his business and should be able to 5% of his market.
